Latitude at Morgan Showroom

Supplier of the Week: Innermost

They describe themselves as being as "British as London itself" and we would definitely say we agree, having discovered their showroom gin bar earlier this year! Stepping away from the gin, you discover the tradition and vibrancy that makes up the Innermost lighting and furniture designs and is reflected even further by their fun and approachable team.

We sat down with them to find out more...

Where have your products been used recently?

Our Latitude pendant, designed by Flynn Talbot, was used to create a dynamic display in the Morgan Furniture Showroom:

Our Circus pendant, designed by Corinna Warm, sits cleanly in this Scandinavian residency:

And within hospitality, our Beads pendant, by Winnie Lui, was used in this Greek restaurant:

And how did Innermost start out?

It all started back in central London in 1999. Founders Steve Jones and Russell Cameron had seen plenty of inspired ideas from raw, talented designers that were never being advanced beyond the conceptual. They realised that if they combined their design and manufacturing experience, these concepts could materialise into a unique and diverse range under a single brand. During these early discussions, the stand-out ideas were labelled those ‘close to their hearts’; ‘the inner thoughts; ‘the inner-most dreams’… And so, with a load of ideas, an in-depth manufacturing knowledge and the desire to turn stunning concepts into reality: Innermost was born.

How are your products made?

We have always placed production where the best skills can be found for the process and travel across the globe sourcing the best quality materials and most suitable producers for each product and every component. Whether we are prototyping in Hong Kong, using hand-blown glass by artisans in the Czech Republic, or doing bespoke engineering at our factory in the UK, we stay close to the manufacturing development at every level.

Since the beginning, we have continued to produce many of our lights and lampshades in the UK, at our facility in Telford, with ownership over everything from production, assembly, testing, packaging, and warehousing. This in-house management of the entire process allows us to guarantee the highest standard of quality, as well as giving us full flexibility when it comes to bespoke product.

How do you tackle sustainability as a business?

We ensure that we develop partnerships with manufacturers who share our common principles of social and environmental accountability.  We work closely with each supplier to ensure that our standards are met in terms of intellectual property, ethical employment and environmental responsibility.

In terms of sustainability, it is crucial to us that Innermost products are long-lasting and we craft each of them with longevity in mind - we don't do disposable products. From the wool used in MNM, to the concrete mix for Portland: only excellent quality materials and components go into each product to ensure this.

What is your top recommendation for a buyer selecting lighting?

We've actually got 2: Versatility and scale! People often choose the wrong size lights, usually going too small. We believe you should have fun with scale and don't be afraid to use oversize pendants or multiple fittings. Buying something versatile that can be adapted for different moods is also well worth considering. And finally, don't install fittings with the electricity on or when in wet clothing...!
