Charlotte Frances Textiles

Supplier of the Week: Charlotte Frances London

Charlotte Frances London is our Supplier of the Week, 5-11 September.

Launched only this year at M&O Paris by design duo Charlotte & Camilla, Charlotte Frances London is a cushion, wallpaper and textiles company that has since been going from strength to strength. Their statement patterns have been proving popular, as well as their warm and friendly approach and service.

We had the pleasure of speaking with co-founder, Charlotte, to find out more.

Charlotte Frances London only launched in January; how did it all start out?

Camilla and I met travelling in South America when we were teenagers and have always shared a love of interior design.  Camilla is a super talented print designer and has worked in the fashion print industry for years; we spotted a gap in the interior textiles market for her vibrant, joyful prints and decided to set up CFL last Summer.  We launched at Maison & Objet in January and it’s been a bit of a whirlwind ever since!

You take a lot of inspiration from world travel; what has been your most inspiring place?

We have both been incredibly lucky to have lived and travelled all over the World and we draw inspiration from aspects of everywhere we have been - it’s hard to pick just one inspiring place!  We both found the explosively fun, tropical colours and culture of Mexico fascinating and this inspired one of our best selling prints, Tulum. For both of us, I’d also say that London is a constant source of wonder and inspiration, the diversity of this City and its inhabitants always gives us tons of new ideas.

How and where are your products manufactured?

We design everything in our studio in East London and all of our products are printed and made in England - we are super fortunate in this country to have so many fantastic, highly skilled manufacturers on our door step!

What’s the most important part of your process?

Obviously, the process of designing our distinctive, intricate prints is at the core of what we do, but also the process of engaging with and building relationships with our customers is fundamental and something we are currently working incredibly hard to succeed at.

Where have your designs been used recently?

We were thrilled to collaborate with Clerkenwell London on their new wellness centre ‘The Well’ this Summer - we designed an exclusive ‘Clerkenwell’ print for them which was used for all the soft furnishings and wallpaper - everyone involved was so happy with the finished look!  We also collaborated with our friends at Laborotary Perfumes on a beautiful set of images, shot by Addie Chinn and styled by Sarianne Plaisant.

What can we expect to see in the coming year?

We are launching our full wallpaper range in our Pampas, Tulum, London Fields, Brittany and Epping prints along with two new prints, Stockholm and Palma at Tent at London Design Fair at the end of this month.

Can you give us a preview of your LDF stand?

There will be lots of colour and print! We will be showcasing our lovely new wallpaper, so expect to see Pampas and London Fields up on the walls, along with our cushion range and some bespoke pieces of furniture.  We’d love to meet as many people as possible so please do swing by our stand at Tent!

Finally, tell us about the last time you found an experience really inspiring?

I recently went to see Ibibio Sound Machine at the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Theatre in London’s Globe Theatre as part of their Wonder Woman series - it was a fantastic riot of Nigerian funk/disco/electro beats, light, colour and dancing, the audience were all on their feet shimmying and singing the entire show! The lead singer, Eno Williams, is unbelievably talented and has an incredible and totally infectious joie de vivre, we were all grinning from ear to ear from all the good vibes for hours afterwards!
